7 Years ago, I was serving for a few days in Mexico on a mission trip. I remember this mission trip very well. It was my last mission trip to go on. I was one of the only young people to go. It was the only time that I actually stayed in Mexico at night (typically we would cross back to Texas and stay at a dormitory type place.
This time though, they had some dorms for missionaries associated with the group - IF im remembering correctly there were only a few big rooms, we basically had a girls room and mens room. each one had many bunk beds in it.
The actual mission work consisted of building 2 little houses and we had a bible school for the kids. I was on the construction team, but I do have to say, that this was one time that i didn't remember working super hard. I remember helping, but in the past I had always worked a lot harder than what I did. I remember helping out with the bible school quite a bit on this trip, something that I didn't help out with a lot in the past.
So, here is the Journal entry:
January 25, 2006
God has sent me to Mexico. I know that it may sound ridiculous to many but I think that it's true.( He has sent me here for a reason ) One of the ladies on the mission team asked me why I wasn't going on the mission trip 2 weeks ago. -- It was because I had to work, and school and such.
But for some strange reason, that was all of a sudden what I wanted to do - I just wanted to go - i wanted to go help people and share God's love - so I talked to the ladies in charge of the trip, and I got the "ok" to go - and filled out all of the paper work.
So here I am.
Yesterday we left DFW around 8:30 am and we stopped to each lunch in San Antonio. After lunch, at some point it started raining, and it rained all the way until we got to the dorms, it was very difficult to drive in (I wasn't driving...) It was very cold. Our host met us at the "declaration point and led us to the dorms in Rio Bravo. We are on some kind of land kind of out in the country, looks like some kind of little "getaway' spot. After we got here, and unloaded, the host's wife had made dinner . after dinner we were tired and so very cold. there are not heaters because it is typically not this cold. It was so cold. To bed I wore 2 pairs of socks, 3 pairs of pants 4 shirts, a hat, and coves. during the night I realized that I could use my breath under my blanket to heat up better. I actually slept well. -
Thursday - we got up and the host's wife made us egg and and ham , which was delicious. the Host came in and told us that there was a 30% chance of rain for the day - we pryed it wouldn't We then went to our work sites.
I of course am on construction, we have 2 teams. the houses (we're building) are close together but it is extremely muddy. Everyone worked hard. WE ate lunch at a nearby church - (a church that a pastor we know from previous mission trips has) After lunch we had bible school, and I offered to help with it.
I wish i had written more about that mission trip. but there isn't any more written.
I do have to say that after I got back - I got SO sick. it was horrible, and wound up having to take off ANOTHER week of work of.f.
When I think about this time of life - I was really becoming more independent. And actually was about to fall from the church for a few years (of course, i didnt know that at the time) but Just seeing how much I've grown from that time period of my life. I have a better sense of who God wants me to minister to (of course everyone, but I guess just to focus on young adults.) I have a better sense of direction, and have a stronger relationship with God. And just now have better common sense and just have grown up. :.. haha.

Im really looking forward to go through my past journals to really re-visit my entries. Most of my entries are actually notes from church/small group or whatnot, not many of these "diary" type entries. (wish I would have written more of them though over the years.
